"I was so bad that my hair even started falling out!" How a cat saved a woman from a terrible depression - Wikipet
The story of Ruth Eddicott:
“For the first time I met Avol on the threshold of my own house in December 2016. He was incredibly cute: black ears, white markings and a fluffy white tummy. I then scratched his ear, and he rubbed affably on my legs. I have no idea where he came to me from.
I work on the railway in shifts, so sometimes I came home very late. But he was waiting for me on such days. As soon as I drove into my street, he immediately rushed behind the car, ran forward and fell on his back, waiting until I came and scratched his tummy. I never fed him and didn’t even think about taking it to myself - I never loved cats. I always had only dogs.
My friend called him Avil. The cat didn’t have a microchip sewn in, so we put a paper collar on it and periodically changed it, and also posted everywhere announcements about the cat found. But no one responded.
He came to me every day for three months. Each time, slamming the door behind me, I saw it through the glass, looking at me with big eyes. He meowed and meowed, asking for a home. It just broke my heart, so in March 2017, I finally decided to take it to me.
At first it was scary, because I have been living a parrot for 15 years. And I certainly did not want to witness the skit “the cat eats the parrot”. But, fortunately, they became friends.Avol was a little worried as soon as he got into the house, hesitantly walked around and sniffed everything, and the next second he was already running around all the rooms at full speed.
I live alone in a three-bedroom house, so he has a lot of freedom here. Initially, he chose one of the empty rooms, but after a couple of weeks he had already moved to my bed. He is very sociable and always always loudly announced that he was here in the room ... even at 3 a.m.
I didn’t know how to look after cats at all. Everything was not so simple with Avil. It turned out he was not easy to find food that would be well digested. One of my friends bought him a toilet with a door so that the cat could enjoy being alone. And when he got used to all this, we still sewed him a chip and treated for fleas.
I took Avola to me just at the time when my 80-year-old grandmother was in the hospital. The next day, my mother called me and asked me to urgently come there. I realized that something is wrong. When I got to the hospital, my grandmother was in intensive care, my grandfather and mother were already with her. Everyone was very hard on the soul. Grandma has always been my best
friend. I then took her hand and said: "Bah, I now have a cat." And grandfather immediately issued: “Well, why do you need him?” And it even a little relieved the situation.
I don’t know if she heard me then, but I think she would have liked Avol very much. Grandma died that night. And I came home and fell from the grief to the floor. I felt very bad, it was difficult to breathe. Evil then went down from the second floor and lay next to me, almost on me.He rushed towards me with such force that I stopped crying for a second.
After some time, I went to visit another grandmother in a nursing home. She said that she brought a cat, which, by the way, she brought on a leash to show her. You had to see the expression on her face! A few months later her brother died, and then she left after him. I lost three friends almost at the same time: two of them quite unexpectedly. During a certain period, I attended a funeral three times in one week. And it was terrible.
I lost six friends and family members in 4 months. Stress accompanied me everywhere, I felt so bad that I started to get depressed and could no longer work. Hair began to fall out.
Avol helped me a lot. He was always there, purring loudly, laying one paw on me. As if he knew what was going on. He made me get out of bed - it seemed an achievement to just go feed him. Finally, after 4 months, I returned to work. And each time I approached the house after the shift, I noticed in the window patiently waiting for Avol. He seemed to be my little guardian angel.
Now my hair is slowly coming back to me, and Avol became a finalist in the competition of cats, who played an important role in helping their owners.
Even grandfather liked him in the end. Although he constantly repeats “Ah, that damn cat”, when it seems to him that no one is seeing, he will certainly scratch him behind the ear.
Avol became a reason for me to get out of bed, smile and come to terms with what happened. I don’t know how I would have lived without him this year. ”
