Beauceron: reviews. "Beauceron - a dream come true!"
In childhood, when there were no encyclopedias or the Internet, I dreamed of a dog that was ideal for me. Large, strong, independent, but at the same time loyal and loving. In appearance, it was Boseron that turned out in children's drawings. But at that moment I was sure that such a dog was just my fantasy. And later, in school years, I accumulated money from dinners and bought an encyclopedia about dog breeds. And there she saw that everything I draw, and so I want, is embodied in Beauceron. But, of course, we didn’t have them then. And only relatively recently, four years ago, completely “by accident”, I bought my dream: two puppies.
So far, there are very few Beaucerons in Belarus. The only nursery I know is ours.
Initially, the Beaucerons were used as shepherd dogs and guards. They also took part in the Second World War as service dogs. That is, beauceron is a completely universal shepherd.
Observations of the breeder: By temperament, the boserons of the hemispherical-hemispherical, this dog is very independent, bold, strong, 100% working. “On the sofa” they will not fit.
It’s clear that this is a companion, but I can’t imagine a Beauceron without some purpose. This dog needs to be started for something, to deal with it. They can do everything: sledding, hiking, agility, OKD, defense, frisbee, IPO, trail work - anything to your taste, but something to do with beauceron is necessary.
You won’t wait for slave submission from Beauceron. This is a person. Due to the original purpose of the breed (grazing and protecting sheep and other farm animals), the Beaucerons are quite independent and independent. Despite the fact that this is an absolutely family dog, adoring everyone and everyone in the family, their position of “observer” in the house is very felt.
Breeder's Observations: Beauceron cannot be subdued by force or rudeness. He will never obey, but he will “despise” such a master and be even more stubborn. The only way is mutual understanding.
The most important thing is to make contact, find an approach to the dog, and then she will do anything for you. And for this it is necessary not only to be a zoopsychologist, but to read literature, to go to classes with a dog handler and, naturally, to feel your pet. In this case, you will understand each other without words.
The Beaucerons are very fond of grazing. Any group of people or animals can become a “victim”: puppies, kittens, a group of mushroom pickers in the forest — the Beauceron will certainly run around everyone in a circle, driving them into one “herd”.
Breeder's observations: Most of our Beaucerons know how to smile, and in the process of “grazing” they are plucked with strictly front incisors.
It is believed that the Beaucerons are prone to cowardice. From my own experience I can say that over several generations of dogs of this breed, whose behavior I personally observed, I noticed only the lack of proper socialization, which was corrected without any effort.
Breeder's recommendation: Socialization requires special attention - as with any breed.
Our dogs live in the village, and in winter it is empty, the dogs have no one to show. Therefore, during the period of socialization, we take the dogs out to the city or go for a walk: we walk along the highway to the neighboring “living” village. And when we come to competitions, where crowds of people, screams, overexcited dogs, our pets adapt very quickly. The Beaucerons generally very quickly get used to the new environment.
The Beaucerons are very active, and you need to work a lot with them to provide energy output. For example, in winter we can go on a team of six Beaucerons for 20 - 40 kilometers, and this is a pleasure for dogs.
Breeder's recommendation: Just a walk the Beaucerons will not be satisfied a single gram, walking for them is nothing. It is necessary to occupy both the dog’s brain and its muscles, giving them a load.
When we have very busy days, I open the cages and we play Frisbee (I use two plates at once, so that the process goes on continuously). An hour is enough to release excess energy and dogs calmly walked around the territory.
The Beaucerons work great: for a toy, and for a treat, and just for praise. They are very smart, able to learn by imitation. I threw a plate to our pit bull, and the elder Beauceron bitch saw this, and looking at her I immediately realized that Royce knew what to do. The dog, which at that time had not yet been taught neither aporting nor, moreover, catching an object in the air, caught and brought a plate the first time. She then “taught” the whole flock to this game.
Beauceron is a very family, companionable dog; loneliness is poorly tolerated. If you work a lot and there is not enough free time, the breed will not suit you, you will not leave them for 8 - 10 hours. Beauceron, who was not accustomed to remain alone, from boredom and grief of loneliness can seriously damage property.
The Beaucerons are great guards. Even without special classes, they will guard the territory and bark at strangers. But at the same time, if the owner said: “Own,” it means his own. You can teach Beauceron protection, or you can not do this - and then you will have the kindest (but still adequately assessing the situation) dog in the world. 🙂 These dogs are very oriented and feel the reaction of the owners.
The Beaucerons are quite tolerant of children. Even a stranger can communicate with Beauceron, stroking, hugging, naturally, without hurting the dog and, like with any other breed, only under the supervision of adults. Beauceron is quite calm about this. Our Beaucerons get along with our fox, with cats and any other animals. Yes, they try to "graze", but they do not show the slightest intention of eating or killing someone. “Male” showdowns between males are possible, for example, if a flowing bitch is in a neighboring aviary, but the maximum that this ends is with bites on the ears. The first they do not attack anyone.
Care and maintenance of Beauceron
Beaucerons have double hair, so they tolerate cold well.
Breeder's Observations: Our dogs live in enclosures with insulated booths. They build up a fairly thick undercoat and tolerate winter well.
Heat is more difficult to tolerate, in particular because they have a dark color. In summer we go to the river, there are basins with water in the area, for dogs there is a place in the shade.
Hair care is the same as for other shepherd dogs. Of course, when the Beauceron sheds, the coat will be in the house, and the dog needs to be combed out. But in general, caring for Beauceron is not a problem.
There is a myth that Boseron has a very strong specific smell. If the dog lives in an aviary or bathes in a pond, the smell will be, but this is true for any breed. However, I asked all the acquaintances of the owners who kept these dogs in their apartments as their only pets whether the boseron smells. The answer is always one: "There is no smell."
Like all large dogs, boserons are tested for dysplasia of the hip and elbow joints. But dysplasia can “jump out” after many generations, although all the ancestors in the foreseeable past were “clean,” that is, no one is immune. Moreover, very often dysplasia is acquired, due to improper maintenance of the puppy, rather than congenital. In general, due to the fact that the breed is not yet spoiled by irresponsible breeding, the Beaucerons, fortunately, still remain a relatively healthy breed.
The most “terrible” thing we have encountered is otitis in dogs with uncropped ears.
How to choose a puppy
If you are thinking about purchasing Beauceron, you should not be "led away" by the advertised nursery / breeder or beautiful pictures on the Internet. Ideally, of course, it is better to see the parents of the puppies in person, to get to know each other. Look at the conditions for keeping adult dogs and puppies, their documents and what standards have been passed by their parents.
Breeder's recommendation: I can pick up a puppy from dogs I know in two months, grow it up and socialize it myself, but it’s okay if you wait for up to 4 months, for example, to see how the puppy develops, its character and attitude to the world around it.
Of course, it’s also worth making sure that the puppy eats well, is active, he does not have a swollen belly, has no hernias, the scissors bite and there are no deviations from the norm.
Thoroughbred Beaucerons come in two colors: black and tan and harlequin (with the obligatory presence of tan). Black and tan dogs should not have any extra marks, but a small white spot on the chest is allowed.
A distinctive feature of the Beaucerons is the dewclaws, which, unlike other breeds, are not removed.
What kind of host do boseron need
First of all, active. Beauceron cannot stand boredom and idleness.
It should also be a self-confident person, patient and consistent, who understands and understands dogs, is familiar at least at the initial level with the anatomy and psychology of dogs, who is ready to learn and learn a lot. For example, to all potential owners, if they did not have a dog before, I ask the question: “Will you go to a dog trainer?” If the answer is yes, then there is a better chance that I will trust them with my puppy. But just at home on the couch of our Beauceron will not be. Beauceron may well come up even as the first dog, if a person is seriously determined to study and learn.
But if a person is not active, does not want to learn to understand his dog and deal with it ... I just can not imagine how he can be trusted with Beauceron.
